Engraving Image Approx. 6" Wide x 9" High

Authentic mid-19th-century French steel engraving titled "Colonne de la Place Vendôme" by master printmaker and publisher Jean-Baptiste Marie Chamouin. This exquisite architectural piece is a fascinating cross-section of art and technology, hailing from the highly collectible series Collection de Vues de Paris.

The lower margin features the historic subtitle "Prise au Daguerreotype" (Captured by Daguerreotype), proving this engraving was meticulously hand-carved onto metal using one of the world's earliest photographic plates from life. The lower right edge bears the official plate credit "Chamouin direx" (direxit), confirming Chamouin’s personal workshop direction and publication.

Features an elegant black wood frame with a classic gold gilt inner lip, crisp cream-colored double matting, and a gold liner. The framing was executed by J. Pocker & Son, one of New York City’s most prestigious historic custom framers (established 1926). Known for museum-quality conservation, the archival backing and professional matting have kept this antique print in excellent condition, shielding it from typical environmental wear.

From the Private Estate of David J. Bikoff, M.D., P.A., of New Jersey.

Excellent antique condition with clean ink details and minimal, uniform age-appropriate toning. The matting is pristine, and the custom frame is structurally solid with only minor, faint vintage wear to the outer edges that adds to its authentic historic character. Ready to hang immediately.
