Antique Carl Tielsch C.T. Altwasser Porcelain Rococo Revival Centerpiece Bowl

Made in Germany c. 1890–1910.

Approximately 3" High × 14" Long Handle to Handle × 9 1/2" Wide.

A substantial late 19th- to early 20th-century German porcelain centerpiece, fruit or serving bowl by Carl Tielsch & Co. of Altwasser, Silesia.

The underside bears a blurred underglaze-blue factory mark consistent with the C.T. Altwasser eagle mark.

The large oval bowl is exceptionally decorative, with an elaborate Rococo Revival form featuring deeply molded and pierced handles, scrolling foliage, shell-like ornament, pierced geometric details, and a dramatically scalloped and shaped rim.

The interior is decorated with softly shaded pastel pink, peach and lavender panels against white porcelain, accented throughout with extensive gilt highlights. A delicate gilt floral and foliate arabesque decorates the center of the bowl.

Carl Tielsch established the Altwasser porcelain factory in Silesia in the 19th century and became an important producer of fine German porcelain. The elaborate molded form, pastel decoration and gilding of this example are characteristic of fashionable historicist and Rococo Revival decorative porcelain of the late Victorian period.

Excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs observed. Age-related wear, rubbing and some fading/loss to the original gilt decoration are present, particularly on the handles, raised molded ornament and other high points. Minor surface wear and scattered marks are consistent with age and use. The gilt wear is part of the piece's antique character. Please review condition carefully.
