Antique Japanese Meiji Imari Porcelain Charger with Raised Enamel Flowers,
Made in Japan c. 1880–1912.
Approximately 2" High x 11 1/2" Diameter, 3 lbs.
Antique Japanese Imari porcelain charger, probably Arita, dating to the Meiji period, circa 1880–1912.
This substantial, richly decorated charger features an iron-red ground filled with circular reserves of traditional Japanese geometric motifs, including overlapping wave and hemp-leaf patterns, turquoise-green scale-like decoration, and blue-and-yellow fretwork. Larger roundels feature stylized floral designs, surrounding a striking black-and-white four-petal central emblem accented with gilding.
The gently scalloped rim is decorated with alternating dark floral panels and iron-red reserves, while raised white enamel blossoms are scattered throughout the interior.
Gold highlights and hand-finished painted details add depth and texture.
The reverse displays freehand cobalt-blue decoration, an unmarked recessed base, and a traditional exposed foot rim.
Excellent antique condition, with no chips or cracks reported. Minor age-related wear to decoration may be present; no repairs have been confirmed.
