Antique John Round & Son Sheffield Sterling Silver Pierced Pedestal Centerpiece Bowl
Made in England 1915.
Approximately 5" High x 12 1/2" Long x 10 3/8" Wide
Approximately 660 Grams (approximately 21.22 Troy Ounces, gross weight)
An elegant and substantial antique English sterling silver centerpiece bowl by John Round & Son Ltd. of Sheffield, with a beautifully shaped oval form, intricately pierced foliate scrollwork around the sides, ornate shaped rim, decorative handles, and a raised circular pedestal foot.
The openwork decoration and impressive proportions make this a particularly striking fruit bowl, comport, or dining-table centerpiece.
The bowl bears British silver hallmarks including the J.R maker's mark, Sheffield crown, and sterling lion passant.
The date-letter punch is a lowercase x, provisionally interpreted as 1915 (1915–1916 assay year).
Beneath the foot are the factory markings W 1044 and a circular trademark associated with John Round & Son, often described as “All the World Round.” W1044 is believed to be a factory pattern or model number.
Excellent antique condition, with no dings or dents reported. Pierced openwork and ornamental rim appear well preserved in the provided photographs. Fine surface wear and light polishing marks consistent with age and use may be present. Please review all photographs as part of the condition description.
