Antique English Figured Walnut Wood Oval Storage Box with Boat-Shaped Domed Lid & Applied Moldings

Made in England c. 1900.

Approximately 9 1/4" High (including lid) x 14 3/4" Long x 8" Wide, 6.98 lbs., unpacked.

An unusually substantial, finely constructed antique elongated oval wooden box with a dramatic convex, vaulted removable lid.

Viewed from the end, the lid rises toward a central longitudinal ridge and tapers toward the pointed oval ends, giving it a distinctive boat-shaped profile.

The polished exterior displays richly figured reddish- and golden-brown wood.

Carefully fitted components and three separate locations of applied perimeter wooden molding or trim: (1) the lower edge of the removable lid, (2) the upper edge of the box body, and (3) the base of the box.

Visible joints in the curved wooden body and applied moldings, including at a pointed interior end, show assembled rather than one-piece construction.

There are small dark pin-like holes in one molding joint.

The underside of the domed lid has an inset oval wooden panel and fitted rim.

Completely flat wooden bottom and bare, unlined interior.

No evidence of a former fabric lining, glue residue, dividers, inserts, or fitted supports has been observed.

On the inner rim, faint smooth surface marks may resemble a decorative capital L or R, but no inscription or maker's mark can be authenticated.

Excellent antique condition. Wear with scratches, scuffs, finish variation and losses, including wear on the underside. Fine surface cracking and age-related joint or molding separations are visible in places. No original lining is present. Please review condition details carefully.
