Vintage Sterling Silver Pierced Openwork Serving Spoon – Rococo Revival Style
Made in USA 1950s-1960s.
Approximately 8" Long x 3" Wide.
Approximately 102 Grams.
An unusually substantial and highly decorative antique sterling silver serving spoon featuring an elaborate Rococo Revival design. The broad, gently concave heart-shaped bowl is surrounded by intricate pierced and reticulated floral and scroll openwork, while the ornate handle is richly modeled with scrolling foliate and Rococo-inspired decoration.
Pierced serving spoon or server; the form may also be described as a tomato, berry, fruit, or slotted server.
The reverse is clearly stamped STERLING, confirming .925 sterling silver. No maker's mark is visible. Comparable examples of this distinctive form are variously described as tomato servers, berry servers, fruit servers, slotted serving spoons, or general-purpose serving spoons. The pierced bowl allows liquid to drain while serving.
The combination of its generous 8-inch size, broad 3-inch bowl, elaborate openwork construction, and substantial 102-gram weight gives the piece a particularly impressive presence. The design reflects the renewed popularity of elaborate Rococo and floral forms in American decorative silver.
Excellent vintage condition with surface wear, light scratches, patina and tarnish consistent with age and use. The pierced and openwork decoration presents well. Please review photographs closely as they form an important part of the condition description.
