Antique Arthur William Heintzelman (1891-1965) “Maria” Signed Limited Edition Drypoint

Original 1926 drypoint by noted American printmaker Arthur William Heintzelman (1891-1965), depicting the finely rendered portrait of a young girl titled Maria.

This small-format portrait is a documented Heintzelman work from an edition of 100 impressions.

The composition demonstrates the artist’s accomplished drypoint technique, with delicate linear work defining the sitter’s face and hair against a densely worked, cross-hatched background.

The print is pencil inscribed “Ed. 100” at lower left and pencil signed “Arthur Wm Heintzelman” at lower right.

An old handwritten label retained on the reverse identifies the subject as “Maria”, with a second period label reading “Etching by A.W. Heintzelman.”

Published references for Maria identify the work as a 1926 drypoint from an edition of 100, with 90 impressions printed on Van Gelder paper. 

Arthur William Heintzelman was an important American etcher and drypoint artist whose finely executed figurative and portrait prints are represented in major museum collections. Maria is particularly appealing for its intimate miniature scale and expressive portraiture.

Excellent antique condition overall. The artwork remains framed and matted and has not been removed from the frame for examination. Frame and mat show age-related wear. The old paper identification labels on the reverse exhibit foxing, spotting, toning and general age-related wear. Please review photographs carefully as they form part of the condition description.
