Made in Austria 1935–1950s.
Frame Approx. 41" Long x 51" Wide.

- Natural Oxidation: Both the reverse raw canvas fibers and the support wood exhibit a rich amber patina, confirming decades of organic aging.
Alois Arnegger, born in Vienna on March 9, 1879, was an Austrian painter renowned for his depictions of snowy landscapes. Alois studied under the master landscape painter Robert Russ at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. While his early career focused on rural Austrian motifs and his 1920s work captured sun-drenched Italian coastal scenes, he achieved his greatest international acclaim during his late career. After returning permanently to Austria in the mid-1930s, Arnegger fused his mastery of warm, brilliant Mediterranean light with the dramatic typography of his homeland. This synthesis defined his signature Late Alpine Period—celebrated for luminous, atmospheric, and highly romanticized depictions of the Austrian Alps.
Good auction records exceding 20K.
Great vintage condition. Surface paint layer is globally stable, showing a beautiful, uniform network of age-appropriate, genuine craquelure (surface hairline cracks) across the composition. The craquelure pattern is deeply telegraphed to the back of the textile, indicating natural aging. There are two isolated, horizontal canvas tears located on the lower quadrant of the canvas where the fabric fibers have split under age tension. The reverse side has been safely secured using temporary blue painters tape to halt further canvas movement. The painting is structurally sound but will require a professional fine art conservator to execute a localized thread-by-thread stabilization, patch, or lining repair. Note: The black circles seen in reference photos are digital markups only and are not present on the physical canvas surface
