Original François Marie Lucet “Penguins, with Magritte Image” Monumental Oil on Canvas USA 2019

Approximately 96" Long × 27 1/2" High × 1 1/8"Deep.

This extraordinary panoramic composition depicts a densely gathered colony of penguins with four enigmatic, dark-clad bowler-hatted figures in the foreground, creating a striking surreal juxtaposition.

Signed and dated on the reverse: Mon Chapo Milon? Francois Lucet January 2019.

Canvas stretched over a substantial wood stretcher with multiple vertical and corner braces.

Provenance / Documentation: Accompanied by a July 10, 2019 invoice issued and personally signed by François Lucet. The artist's invoice specifically identifies this work as “Large oil canvas of the Penguins, with Magritte image” and records a price of $18,000. The same invoice documents a second Lucet penguin painting and records a total transaction of $24,000.

The artist's own description establishes the intended Magritte reference in the composition. The reverse inscription appears to reference chapeau melon, the French term for a bowler/derby hat, corresponding to the distinctive hats worn by the foreground figures.
