Jasper D'Ambrosi (American, 1926–1985) First Blossom, 1984 Limited Edition Bronze Sculpture, 49/50
Made in USA 1984.
Approximately 18" High x 11 1/2" Wide x 7" Deep
A finely modeled limited-edition Western and Native American figural bronze by American sculptor Jasper D'Ambrosi. Titled First Blossom and dated 1984, the work depicts a young Native American girl standing in traditional dress, wrapped in a broad textured shawl and wearing long earrings and layered turquoise-colored jewelry.
The sculpture is cast bronze with cold-painted/polychrome details. D'Ambrosi contrasts the dark patinated bronze of the figure with green/turquoise accents at the necklace and jewelry, while the shawl is modeled with a woven textile-like surface. The figure's carefully modeled face, elaborate side-bun hairstyle, jewelry, clothing and moccasins demonstrate the artist's attention to both portraiture and decorative detail.
The bronze is signed, dated and numbered in the casting J. D'Ambrosi 1984 49/50, identifying this example as number 49 from a limited edition of only 50. It is mounted on its original rectangular wood plinth with brass title plaque reading First Blossom.
Jasper D'Ambrosi was an American painter and sculptor associated particularly with Western subjects. After studying at the University of Southern California and working in commercial art and design, he became a full-time artist in 1970. His sculptural work includes both intimate limited-edition bronzes and monumental public sculpture. First Blossom is a documented D'Ambrosi composition.
Excellent vintage condition. The bronze retains its dark patinated surface, contrasting polychrome/cold-painted details, jewelry elements and shawl tassels. The wood base shows minor age-appropriate surface wear. Please review all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
