Rectangular Serving Dish Approximately 1 1/8" High x 10 1/4" Long x 8" Wide, 1.56 lbs.
A pair of antique French faience serving dishes by the Faïencerie de Gien, probably dating to circa 1875–1900.
Both pieces display richly colored heraldic decoration in the Rouen revival taste, with cobalt-blue ornamental borders, floral motifs, and central paired shields beneath a knight’s helmet and crest.
One red shield bears an unusual silver angular device, seemingly repeated above the helmet.
The blue shield bears three gold birds. Flags, crossed swords, military trophies, and a winged eagle-like figure complete the composition.
The undersides bear blue interlaced Gien factory monograms of a documented mark type used approximately 1875–1935, together with impressed marks and a red handwritten production or decoration notation. The families represented by the shields have not been conclusively identified; these may be commissioned, adapted, or decorative armorial designs.
Offered together as a matching pair; the price is for both pieces.
