A charming matching pair of antique Chelsea-style porcelain figural table lamps, attributed to Samson of Paris, France, circa 1880–1910.
The pair includes matching light blue fabric lampshades of flared, paneled form, with coordinating fabric trim at the top and bottom and light-colored interior linings.
The pastoral couple is finely modeled in 18th-century Rococo dress, each accompanied by a lamb and surrounded by applied porcelain flowers and foliage.
The shepherdess wears a green bodice, floral skirt with yellow overskirt, and white bonnet, and holds a blue tambourine.
The gentleman wears a richly floral-decorated coat with gilt details and turquoise-blue breeches, with one hand raised. Gold-toned painted anchor-style marks are visible at the bases, partly obscured by the mounts.
The figures are mounted on decorative gilt/bronze-toned metal bases and fitted with brass-tone pull-chain lamp sockets.
Offered together as one matching pair, without bulbs.
The Samson attribution is based on closely comparable cataloged figures and the Chelsea-style anchor marks; the factory attribution has not been conclusively authenticated. The metal mounts and electrification appear to be later additions.
Good antique condition. The shepherdess has a missing tip to the pinky finger on the hand playing the tambourine and a chip to the lower purple dress ruffle. The gentleman has a small loss to the central portion of the purple decorative bow at the bottom of his left pant leg and partial flower below the lamb. Some age-related surface wear and accumulated dust in crevices; possible minor irregularities or losses to delicate applied foliage. Please review all photographs closely as part of the condition description. Paul Jacobs Antiques does not guarantee the working conditions or safety of electrified items. Wiring should be checked by a qualified electrician, prior to use on any lamp or electrified item.
