Vintage Tiffany & Co. Hand-Painted French Faience Muffineer Sugar Shaker No. 2896

Vintage Tiffany & Co. hand-painted French faience muffineer / sugar shaker, an unusual and highly decorative table-service form made in France for Tiffany & Co.

The tall baluster-form vessel is hand painted in a lively polychrome palette with a colorful bird, flowering branches, foliage, butterflies and insects against a white faience ground. Cobalt-blue linear borders and additional orange, yellow, green and blue accents frame the decoration.

The domed upper section is pierced with numerous small dispensing holes and screws securely onto the body. This specialized construction identifies the form as a muffineer / sugar shaker, intended for dispensing sugar or another finely ground dry table condiment.

The underside is hand inscribed “HAND PAINTED IN FRANCE / FOR TIFFANY & CO. / 2896” and bears an additional small painted decorator’s mark. No. 2896 appears to be the pattern/form or decoration number, while the separate painted symbol is consistent with an individual decorator’s mark seen on other French hand-painted wares made for Tiffany & Co.

Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Hand-painted decoration remains bright and well preserved, with only minor surface wear consistent with age and use. The pierced screw-top cover appears intact and threads properly onto the body. Please review photos for additional condition details.
